These scent boxes were designed to work with the K-9 Behavior shaping device. These scent boxes are heavyweight and feature a ¼” thick black PVC plastic top. They feature an adapter plate attached underneath to the top, this forms a pocket to insert your scent bag into and forces the scent out the hole. This adapter plate also positions the K-9 behavior shaping device in place. The adapter plate also holds the PVC tube with ball in place in the other boxes that are used for distraction training. These boxes feature a special clear coating that seals the wood and allows you to easily clean them. These boxes work great for all types of scent dog training. These boxes come fully assembled and ready to use.

Rubber balls have a strong odor of their own. Our Odor Imprinting Balls have virtually no smell of their own, except for the odor of the training aid you put inside of them. These balls have holes evenly distributed in them to allow the odor to be easily smelled by your K-9. These balls are similiar in size to a tennis ball, made extra thick and durable. There is one elongated slot on the ball to allow you to place your training aid (marijuana, explosive scent, cadaver scent, etc.) inside. Place your training aid (dope,explosive, pseudo, etc.) into a small cotton bag and insert into the ball. You can also use odor impregnated cotton balls and place them inside the ball. There is a 12" rope attached to the ball so you can combine the fight (tug action) with the odor reward.

Scent detection training tins are specially packaged to minimize contamination during storage, training, and field handling. The special package that the tin comes in is resealable. Each tin has a threaded, screw on lid with scent holes. These are great to place your explosive or narcotic training aids in. Many customers buy 5 at a time and place the training aid scent in 1 and use the other 4 as distraction tins. They place all 5 on the floor two feet apart and the dog must find the one with the scent in it. Please use these however they best suit your training needs.

Description: Tape two of this series shows how to use ground-breaking methods to accomplish the next five learning objectives in the training of drug and explosive detector dogs.
4) Teach the dog to divert its attention from reward to target odor.
5) Establish a cue for search behavior.
6) Teach the “oral response.”
7) Develop the dog’s ability to complete prolonged searches.
8) Teach the dog to ignore distracters.
Once these objectives are achieved, then the student detector dog will have achieved the special attributes of the trained detector dog: The dog will possess a crystal-clear understanding of his task, and he will display the kind of obedience to odor that makes it virtually impossible to disturb or distract him during search or indication. He will also exhibit an extraordinary degree of independence and self-belief while searching. Finally, the dog will display pronounced and obvious changes of behavior when he encounters target odor, accompanied by prolonged and intensive efforts to pinpoint the odor source prior to making a final indication.
